AKS regularly sends young people from Lithuania to Erasmus+ youth exchanges in various European countries. From time to time, we are looking for new adult group leaders to accompany these groups! The role of a group leader is particularly well suited to curious, active teachers who enjoy working with teenagers aged 14+, can communicate well in English, and would like to see how international non-formal education works in practice.
Youth exchanges usually last around 7–10 days. Each project brings together groups from several European countries, and the programme typically includes workshops, discussions, hikes, creative tasks, teamwork, cultural evenings, excursions, and other non-formal education activities.
A group leader is not a teacher who has to teach lessons or organise the programme. Their main responsibility is to accompany the group, make sure no one gets lost at the airport, help young people get involved, be a trusted and supportive person they can turn to, maintain a positive group atmosphere, and cooperate with the project organisers and group leaders from other countries.
FAQ:
Is this a paid position?
No. The group leader role is voluntary and is not a paid position. No remuneration is provided for the week of the project.
Will I have to pay for everything myself?
No. During the project, accommodation, meals, and the full programme are provided, while travel expenses are reimbursed according to the Erasmus+ limit set for the specific project.
When do youth exchanges usually take place?
Projects take place throughout the year, especially during school holidays – summer, autumn, Christmas, winter, or spring holidays. Sometimes youth exchanges also take place during the school year – if you can arrange your schedule with your employer, you are very welcome to join.
Do I need to be an English teacher?
No. However, you should be able to communicate reasonably well in English, feel comfortable working with teenagers, and be able to respond calmly to unexpected situations.
What’s in it for me?
You will have the opportunity to see non-formal education methods up close, bring new activities back to your school, use English in an international environment, meet people and organisations from other countries, and experience an Erasmus+ youth project yourself.
Do I have to commit to going right away?
No. You can simply leave your contact details. When a suitable project comes up, we will send you the dates, country, participants’ age group, and topic, and you can then decide whether that particular trip is right for you.
